Journalist Claims Vinicius Is Two Kilos Overweight as Real Madrid Star Struggles for Form

Vinicius Jr.’s difficult start to the season has sparked another wave of criticism, with one Spanish journalist pointing to his physical condition — and suggesting it may also be affecting him emotionally.

“I think it is a physical problem, almost an emotional one. He is not hiding, but nothing is coming off for him. I don’t think he is in good physical shape and perhaps he is two kilos overweight,” Meana said.

The claim has not been independently confirmed, and Real Madrid’s official squad profile currently lists Vinicius at 73kg.

Meana believes the physical issue could be contributing to a wider problem.

When a player as reliant on acceleration, confidence and one-on-one ability as Vinicius fails to produce his usual performances, frustration can quickly build.

The journalist suggested that the Brazilian’s lack of confidence may be feeding into his performances, with missed opportunities and unsuccessful dribbles further affecting his game.

Vinicius has already acknowledged that he needs to improve. After his recent struggles in front of goal, the Brazilian admitted that he could not afford to keep missing so many chances and insisted that his goals would return.

Mourinho continues to back him

Despite the criticism, José Mourinho has continued to trust Vinicius.

The Real Madrid manager has started the Brazilian in every match so far and has repeatedly defended his effort in training and during matches.

Mourinho has also indicated that Vinicius is working hard to improve his physical condition, suggesting that the coaching staff are aware of the issue and are trying to help him return to his best level.

Other recent reports have likewise noted that Vinicius arrived below his usual physical level, while Real Madrid have continued to publicly support him.

That backing is significant because the club still sees Vinicius as a key part of its long-term plans.
