Koundé full of praise for Mbappé and Laporta grows desperate: ‘He’s an example’

Jules Koundé sobre Mbappé

Jules Koundé Praises Mbappé’s Leadership as Ballon d’Or Debate Heats Up, The Barcelona defender hails his French teammate’s natural authority while weighing in on the Ballon d’Or race between Lamine Yamal and Ousmane Dembélé.

Jules Koundé, FC Barcelona defender and France international, spoke to the press at Clairefontaine during the national team’s training camp ahead of the international break. Among various topics, he offered high praise for Kylian Mbappé, his national teammate and Real Madrid rival in LaLiga.

“I’ve always thought Mbappé’s leadership comes naturally. He’s very present with his teammates, always willing to talk and share responsibilities. As the type of player he is, he commands respect and recognition from everyone. It’s something that just comes naturally to him,” said Koundé.

Koundé on the Ballon d’Or Race

When asked about this year’s Ballon d’Or, Koundé admitted it’s a difficult choice given his close ties to two of the favorites—Barcelona star Lamine Yamal and PSG forward Ousmane Dembélé.

“I’ve said it before, but I’ll repeat it: they both deserve it. They’ve had incredible seasons, with trophies included. It’s complicated when you play with both of them. I’m not the one voting, but there are strong arguments for each. I’m just happy to share a team with Lamine and to see him leading us. Ousmane has reached a new level—he’s playing his best football, and the stats back him up. May the best man win.”

Koundé, who himself enjoyed a standout season with Barcelona, emphasized the pride he feels in being named among the 30 nominees for the Ballon d’Or:

“It’s very rewarding to be among the world’s best players.”

Looking Ahead to a Clash with PSG

Koundé also expressed excitement about facing Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League group stage.

“It’s a fixture we’ve had circled for a while because it’s going to be spectacular. Last season, I think it was the matchup people most wanted to see, especially in a Champions League final. Given the history between the clubs and PSG’s quality, these are the games you look forward to. We can’t wait.”

With praise for Mbappé, admiration for teammates Yamal and Dembélé, and anticipation for a high-stakes Champions League clash, Koundé’s comments underline the competitive spirit and star power surrounding both Barcelona and France’s national team this season.
