Pau Torres Reveals Real Madrid’s Interest and How David Alaba’s Transfer Changed His Fate
During his time with Villarreal, Pau Torres consistently flew under the radar, being widely regarded as one of La Liga’s most underrated defenders. However, this summer, he bid farewell to the Groguets to reunite with former manager Unai Emery at Aston Villa.
Interestingly, Torres could have made his exit from Villarreal much earlier. In 2021, after the departure of Sergio Ramos, Real Madrid had their sights set on him. However, as Torres disclosed to Relevo, Los Blancos ultimately chose David Alaba instead.
Torres clarified, “I didn’t reject them. I would never turn down a club like Real Madrid or Barcelona. There were discussions, but, in the end, they seized a market opportunity, signing Alaba for free.”
If David Alaba had not been available as a free transfer from Bayern Munich, Pau Torres might very well have found himself donning the white shirt of Real Madrid today. Nevertheless, he is likely content with how events have unfolded over the past few years.
