Kroos Says Goodbye to the Bernabéu and Drops a Hint About His Future
Everyone is wondering if Toni Kroos will continue playing for Real Madrid next season. Even he doesn’t know. His contract expires in June, but what he has made clear is that he will miss playing at the Santiago Bernabéu when he hangs up his boots.
“I decided relatively late last year to renew my contract. If you have even the slightest thought that it’s possible you won’t continue (I had it last year), then you try to make the most of these moments because you know there won’t be many more,” Kroos said, reflecting on the matter.
“I play football every two weeks in the best stadium in the world. I enjoy every game I play there. It would be crazy to say that I won’t mind leaving. Of course, I will miss it (after retiring),” the German commented.
“If you enjoy something and you like it so much, you will miss it. Not just for myself, but also in general, for the support to the team. The energy in certain games that we decide at the last moment, comebacks, big moments in a stadium with over 80,000 people… of course, these are moments that one will miss when leaving,” he said.
“No one can say that this is not important or that you wouldn’t want to miss it when a whole Bernabéu crowd cheers for you. But, on the other hand, this doesn’t mean that I need to feel it every day of my life to be a happy person,” he concluded.
Real Madrid wants to have him for another year Kroos’ declaration of love for the Bernabéu, combined with the possibility of his retirement in June, suggests that the German is reconsidering his decision for the next season. Real Madrid would be delighted to have him for another year; Ancelotti and Florentino want him in the squad. However, Kroos will decide again in a few months. He will sit down with his family, and from there, the answer about his continuity (or not) in the white house until 2025 will emerge.
