It’s Official: Xabi Alonso Signs with Real Madrid Until 2028 and Brings Two Trusted Aides

The moment of truth has arrived for Real Madrid and Xabi Alonso, who will officially join forces this summer, marking the end of Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure.
The coach from Tolosa is set to lead the Spanish giants until 2028, pending official confirmation. Both Florentino Pérez and José Ángel Sánchez are hopeful that this new chapter will be just as glorious as the one under the Italian manager from Reggiolo.
“On May 25, Ancelotti will say goodbye, and Real Madrid will start a new era under Xabi Alonso. Both the Italian and the club have agreed to focus solely on winning LaLiga, but before that, they had a friendly discussion and reached a mutual agreement for his farewell,” revealed José Félix Díaz.
He Won’t Be Coming Alone
Xabi Alonso, who has already informed Bayer Leverkusen’s leadership of the move, has been working for days on his transition to the Santiago Bernabéu. He won’t come alone — he will be joined by Sebas Parrilla (assistant coach) and Alberto Encinas (fitness coach).
These two are trusted collaborators and have already received the green light from Real Madrid, especially as they have worked closely with Alonso at Bayer Leverkusen. Notably, Parrilla has previous experience at Valdebebas, Real Madrid’s training ground.

This signals the start of a new era for Real Madrid under Xabi Alonso, following Carlo Ancelotti’s departure, who will receive a grand farewell after the final league game, regardless of how the rest of the season unfolds.
“The agreement to part ways with Ancelotti was finalized after the Champions League tie against Arsenal, when the coach and the club’s top officials concluded that it was time to go their separate ways,” said José Félix Díaz.
Two Immediate Uncertainties
At the moment, Real Madrid still faces two immediate questions following this coaching change:
- Who will manage the team during the Club World Cup?
It’s currently unclear whether Alonso will step in immediately or if an interim coach will lead the team in the tournament. - What will happen with Antonio Pintus?
The future of the legendary fitness coach is also in doubt. Pintus has been closely linked to Ancelotti, and although his contract is separate from the Italian’s, his position is uncertain heading into the new era.
