Bayer Leverkusen Sends a Clear Message to Real Madrid About Xabi Alonso’s Future

The German Club Remains Confident in Keeping Their Coach

Xabi Alonso’s name has been circulating for some time as a potential candidate to take over as Real Madrid’s head coach in the near future. While the Madrid board is pleased with Carlo Ancelotti’s work in recent years, they are carefully evaluating alternative options should the team fail to meet expectations this season.

If Ancelotti were to leave, Xabi Alonso is the preferred choice of Florentino Pérez and the club’s leadership. The Spanish coach knows the club inside out and could bring a fresh perspective to the team. However, Alonso remains under contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2026, and the German club is confident he will honor his deal.

Bayer Leverkusen’s Firm Stance

“We assume he will be our coach next season,” said Fernando Carro, CEO of Bayer Leverkusen, in an interview with AFP. He further emphasized, “He is happy here.”

Carro also reflected on why the club chose Xabi Alonso as their coach back in 2022, stating:

“We had the impression that the team needed a new boost. After our first conversation with him, we were convinced he had a clear vision and the ability to bring his experience to the squad. When you have a career like his, combined with his success and personality, everything multiplies.”

A Matter of Time?

At the moment, it is too early to determine Xabi Alonso’s future. Carlo Ancelotti still has Real Madrid competing in all tournaments, and the trophies won at the end of the season will play a major role in the club’s final decision.

That said, it seems like only a matter of time before Xabi Alonso eventually takes charge of Real Madrid. Coaching the club has always been his dream, and Los Blancos would gladly welcome him once Ancelotti’s tenure comes to an end.
