Xavi Simons Poised for a Significant Role on His Return to Paris Saint-Germain in 2024
Former La Masia standout, Xavi Simons, is on the verge of potentially assuming a pivotal role upon his return to Paris Saint-Germain in 2024.
Simons made a lasting impression during his nine-year stint in Barcelona’s youth system from 2010 to 2019. However, he chose to part ways with Barcelona after failing to reach an agreement on a new contract.
His departure from Barcelona paved the way for a free transfer to PSG. Nevertheless, his journey in the French capital hasn’t been without its challenges, and a crucial decision looms next summer.
In 2023, PSG exercised a buyback clause on Simons following a stellar season with PSV Eindhoven. However, they promptly loaned him to RB Leipzig for the 2023/24 campaign.
According to reports from Diario AS, Simons’ role at PSG could be subject to change, contingent on the future of Kylian Mbappe in the French capital. Mbappe’s contract is set to expire at the end of the current season, and there are no indications of an extension, amidst rumors of a potential free transfer to Real Madrid.
Should Mbappe depart, Simons may be granted an expanded role at PSG, based on his form at RB Leipzig. This shift would signify a continuation of PSG’s evolving and more balanced transfer policy.
