Vítor Roque Already Regretting His Move to Barça: His Dream Was Real Madrid
The decision of Real Madrid has radically changed the landscape of Spanish football and one of its most intriguing rivalries: the one between the Merengues and FC Barcelona.
The situation at FC Barcelona, in every sense, is quite noteworthy. The team coached by Xavi Hernandez, with its elimination in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals, adds another failure to this season. It doesn’t resemble last season’s Barça, which eventually won La Liga and the Supercopa de España after a more than irregular start.
But this year is not going as well as expected. The lack of goals is one of the most striking ‘problems’ of the Catalan club, despite having a rich roster of forwards, to which they added a new piece this January: Vítor Roque. The Brazilian forward, number 19, arrived from Brazil earlier than planned and was able to be registered due to the long-term absence of Gavi. The place of the midfielder from Los Palacios is now occupied by the Brazilian striker.
If Vítor Roque expected to have a leading role in his first season as a Barcelona player, it is not turning out that way. Although many fans considered him one of the necessary signings to straighten the club’s path in the short term, Xavi Hernandez has barely given him opportunities since he took over the coaching position.
Two different contexts The repeated absences of Vítor Roque may have led him to reconsider his departure from Brazil. It could have been too hasty and directed towards a club that ventured into the Brazilian market not out of necessity, but to compete with its arch-rival. When Real Madrid approached Brazil to sign Endrick, they had the opportunity to sign Vítor Roque. Juni Calafat intervened at the last moment and convinced Florentino Pérez that the Palmeiras forward was the best option for the Merengues.
Time seems to have proven the chief scout at Madrid right, who never underestimated Vítor Roque’s merits. The signing of Endrick severely diminished the chances of the current Barcelona striker wearing the Madrid shirt, as his name was kept as a possible addition to Real Madrid Castilla. Thus, Florentino Pérez’s mild interest eventually faded away when FC Barcelona, led by Joan Laporta, began talks to secure his signing.
