Varane Willing to Take a Significant Pay Cut to Return to Madrid After Alaba’s Injury”
The French center-back could make a comeback to the Spanish capital as Alaba’s injury alters the club’s plans
David Alaba’s injury has changed Real Madrid’s winter transfer market strategy. With only two available center-backs, the team is forced to reinforce the defensive line for the second half of the season. The name of Raphaël Varane seems to be back on the table.
The French center-back, who was previously at the Merengues, will see his contract with Manchester United expire in June 2024. Varane is reportedly not happy at Old Trafford and would not mind returning to the Spanish capital.
While Varane earns £12 million per season in England, Florentino Pérez is unlikely to offer him more than £6 million for the period from January to June. The Madrid leadership has always admired the French player, as he performed admirably during his previous stint with the club.
Varane would be willing to spend these months in Madrid. His plan is to continue afterward, provided that Real Madrid wants him, or alternatively, move to Saudi Arabia in search of a final contract, as there is interest from the Middle East.
Already 30 years old If Real Madrid signs Varane, they should be aware that he is 30 years old and no longer the young player they signed in 2012 at the age of 18. Times have changed, and while he is still a viable option, it appears not to be Florentino Pérez’s top choice.
During the Christmas break, the club’s sports management will make a decision, and it’s likely that there will be some new faces. Valdebebas already has a list of names to strengthen the central defensive position.
