Union Berlin Embrace Champions League Challenge Against Real Madrid
Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin is gearing up for their maiden adventure in the Champions League, and they won’t be overwhelmed by the prospect of facing Real Madrid.
The German club earned their place in Europe’s premier competition after an impressive showing in the 2022/23 season, finishing fourth domestically to secure their historic Champions League debut.
Real Madrid’s European campaign kicks off with a home fixture against Union Berlin on September 20, and the German side is ready to embrace the challenge. Defender Robin Gosens has issued a rallying cry to his teammates, emphasizing their intention to compete rather than merely be spectators.
“We’re not going there to be spectators; we’re not going to admire the stadium and be surprised by everything. We can do that after the game; we’re going to compete,” Gosens stated.
Union Berlin’s journey to Madrid marks the opening game in Group C this season, with Serie A champions Napoli facing Sporting Braga in another group fixture.
