Sergio Ramos Admits He Was Close to Joining Manchester United
Over the years, several legendary players have donned the jerseys of both Real Madrid and Manchester United, with the path from Old Trafford to Santiago Bernabeu being a well-trodden route. Icons such as Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, and Ruud van Nistelrooy have made that journey in the past. However, recent times have seen the direction of transfers shift, with players departing Real Madrid to join Manchester United, despite the Premier League club’s struggles following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson. Notable figures like Angel Di Maria, Raphael Varane, and Casemiro fall into this category.
It appears that Sergio Ramos’ name was also on the verge of being added to that list, with the Spanish defender coming close to playing for Manchester United. As reported by AS, Ramos revealed his close call:
“Yes, I was close to playing for United. My father is a great fan of that team, but I stayed where I should, Real Madrid.”
In hindsight, Ramos’ decision to remain at Real Madrid was undoubtedly the right one, as he went on to achieve legendary status at the club, securing four Champions League titles during his 16-year tenure in the Royal White jersey.
However, Ramos left Real Madrid in 2021, joining PSG that summer in a move that was highly anticipated but ultimately fell short of expectations on the pitch. Struggling with fitness issues in his first season at PSG, Ramos eventually found his way into the starting lineup during his second campaign with the French giants.
This summer, Ramos departed PSG to make a return to La Liga, rejoining Sevilla, the club where he came through the youth ranks and made his initial foray into senior-level football. At 37 years of age, the football world eagerly awaits to see how much longer Ramos will continue to grace the pitch.
