Rodrygo considers leaving Real Madrid and informs the club where he would like to play

Rodrygo Eyes Real Madrid Exit, Names Manchester City as Only Destination, The Brazilian forward is willing to leave the Bernabéu — but only for Pep Guardiola’s team, as uncertainty looms ahead of Xabi Alonso’s arrival.
Rodrygo Goes could be on his way out of Real Madrid this summer, and he’s made one thing clear: if he leaves, it will only be for Manchester City. The 23-year-old Brazilian forward is reportedly aware that he might be among the players the club sacrifices to fund its ambitious transfer plans — but he’s already taken steps to shape his future.
According to journalist Eduardo Inda, Rodrygo has resumed contact with Pep Guardiola, reinforcing his desire to join the Premier League champions if he’s forced to depart the Spanish capital. Speaking on El Chiringuito, Inda said:

“If Rodrygo leaves, it will be to Manchester City. That’s where he wants to go. But there are doubts about whether City will play in the Champions League. He’ll wait for Xabi Alonso to arrive to see if he’s part of his plans.”
A Growing Rift with Madrid?
Rodrygo’s situation at Real Madrid has become more ambiguous in recent weeks. Since being substituted at halftime in the Copa del Rey final on April 26, he hasn’t played a single minute under Carlo Ancelotti. Although the official line mentions an injury, the lack of transparency has raised suspicions.
Internally, there’s growing belief that his future will depend on how incoming manager Xabi Alonso views him. Alonso’s tactical preference at Bayer Leverkusen — a 3-5-2 system — may not naturally suit Rodrygo’s strengths as a wide forward.

Torn Between Loyalty and Ambition
Rodrygo signed a contract extension until 2028 last year, signaling long-term commitment to Real Madrid. He genuinely wants to continue at the club — but only if he maintains a key role in the new project. He has no interest in returning to a backup role, like during the 2021–22 Champions League run, where he was used as an impact substitute.
Having cemented himself as a starter over the last two seasons, Rodrygo now expects to be treated as a foundational player. If not, he’s ready to explore other opportunities — but only at Manchester City.
Real Madrid’s Stance
The club understands Rodrygo’s stance and is also aware that Manchester City holds all the leverage. The player has ruled out any other destination, allowing City to negotiate from a position of strength. While Madrid hopes to receive around €100 million for Rodrygo, City could attempt to drive the price down given the limited market.
Ultimately, Rodrygo’s fate will likely hinge on Xabi Alonso’s vision for the squad. Until then, the Brazilian’s future remains one of the biggest question marks in Madrid’s summer plans.
