Reinier Jesus: Navigating Rough Waters as Opportunities Dwindle
In a whirlwind of change, Reinier Jesus has experienced a rapid transformation over the past few years.
Upon his much-anticipated arrival at Real Madrid from Flamengo in 2020, hopes were high for him to follow in the footsteps of Vinicius and Rodrygo, becoming the next rising star in the football firmament.
His immediate two-year loan to Borussia Dortmund seemed to signal his readiness for top-tier action. However, the loan stint didn’t quite hit the mark. While he enjoyed a reasonable amount of playing time on loan at Girona last year, his performance failed to dazzle. Now back at Madrid, the outlook is grim, as highlighted by Marca’s recent article: “Interest in Reinier Jesus Wanes.”
Carlo Ancelotti has excluded him from first-team training, and even Raul has declined his inclusion in the Castilla group. Raul’s reasoning is that if Reinier is destined for another loan spell, he should not be a part of his group.
Consequently, Reinier finds himself training alone at Valdebebas, with little to no interest emanating from European clubs for his services. Madrid won’t allow him to stagnate there indefinitely, ensuring that an exit strategy will eventually materialize. Yet, it increasingly appears that he will need to take a step down in terms of the caliber of team he represents this year.
