Real Madrid’s Transfer U-Turn: Club Considers Triggering Clause to Sign Miguel Gutiérrez Alongside Alexander-Arnold

Alexander-Arnold

Real Madrid has altered its approach to the upcoming transfer market. While their initial strategy seemed set, the club has now made a decisive change, paving the way for two key signings: Trent Alexander-Arnold and Miguel Gutiérrez.

The club has reportedly secured Alexander-Arnold’s arrival for next season, having spent January negotiating with the player’s camp. Although they attempted to bring him in during the winter window, Liverpool refused to negotiate, leading Madrid to wait until his contract expires.

Initially, the same approach was planned for Alphonso Davies, making him the primary left-back target while ruling out other options like Theo Hernández or Miguel Gutiérrez. However, unlike Alexander-Arnold, Davies has decided to renew his contract with Bayern Munich, forcing Real Madrid to reconsider their plans.

Miguel Gutiérrez Back on Madrid’s Radar

With Davies out of the picture, Real Madrid is now seriously considering activating their buy-back clause for Miguel Gutiérrez. Just weeks ago, the club had ruled out this possibility, but his impressive performances for Girona have made him a viable solution for the problematic left-back position.

Madrid still holds a clause that allows them to re-sign Gutiérrez for just €8 million—a bargain considering his development in LaLiga. Meanwhile, neither Fran García nor Ferland Mendy has fully convinced Ancelotti. Although the coach continues to rotate them, neither has solidified his place as the undisputed starter.

The decision will depend on departures. While Fran García remains under contract, Mendy’s deal expires this summer, though renewal talks are reportedly ongoing. If one of them leaves, Gutiérrez is now the leading candidate to reinforce the left flank.
