Real Madrid’s Summer Plans: Clearing the Books and Potential Departures
Real Madrid is gearing up for a potentially eventful summer in 2024, with the first of July circled as a significant date, potentially marking Kylian Mbappe’s arrival at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, it’s not just incoming stars that will be in the spotlight; a series of exits may also be on the horizon.
According to Ramon Alvarez de Mon, as reported by DC, Real Madrid is looking to accumulate €70 million in savings and sales before the end of June 2024 to balance their accounts. This financial target includes generating revenue from player sales and offsetting fees that are yet to be amortized. These financial considerations will significantly influence which players are considered for departure.
Alvarez de Mon highlights that the €45 million fee for Rodrygo Goes has been largely amortized, which makes him a prime candidate for a potential sale, with Real Madrid likely to demand in excess of €70 million for the Brazilian, thus contributing significantly to the financial target.
In addition to Rodrygo Goes, two other players stand out as potential candidates to leave. Ferland Mendy, the French defender, appears to have limited time left at the club, as his contract expires in 2025. Real Madrid is likely to explore the possibility of selling him next summer, with the only potential obstacle being Mendy’s desire to fulfill his contract.
Meanwhile, Brahim Diaz, although not performing poorly in sporadic appearances under Carlo Ancelotti, has yet to secure consistent playing time. Despite renewing his contract upon returning from a loan spell at Milan, opportunities have been limited. With Arda Guler’s imminent return from injury, it appears unlikely that Diaz’s chances will increase.
Rodrygo, despite being one of the most promising forwards in football, has faced difficulties this season, scoring only twice and expressing discomfort with his current role. With Jude Bellingham likely to continue in an advanced position and Vinicius Junior settled on the left flank, competition for the forward line may intensify if another major signing, such as Mbappe, materializes. This scenario could potentially relegate Rodrygo to a spot on the bench, prompting consideration of his future with the club.
