Real Madrid’s Pursuit of Alphonso Davies: A Strategic Tactic by Chief Scout Juni Calafat
It’s no secret that Real Madrid has a strong interest in acquiring Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies. With neither Ferland Mendy nor Fran Garcia delivering entirely convincing performances, coach Carlo Ancelotti has occasionally deployed Eduardo Camavinga in that position. However, Los Blancos have their sights set on bringing the Canadian international to the club next summer.
BILD in Germany previously reported that Bayern is open to letting Davies go for €50 million next summer, as he will be entering the final year of his contract, suggesting that contract renewal discussions are not progressing favorably. Real Madrid is now looking to negotiate that price down to €40 million.
Reportedly, Real Madrid’s Chief Scout, Juni Calafat, has designated Davies as his ‘dream’ defensive signing for the upcoming summer, and he’s already working diligently to facilitate the transfer. Much like in the case of Jude Bellingham, this effort includes Calafat building a personal relationship with Davies and his management team, ensuring that Davies feels valued and appreciated.
Calafat’s approach has proven successful on multiple occasions, often leading players to choose Real Madrid over more financially lucrative offers. The German outlet highlights that this strategy tends to keep transfer fees reasonable, securing Bellingham’s signature for ‘just’ €100 million.
Davies undoubtedly represents a significant upgrade for Real Madrid on the left side. A pairing of Davies and Vinicius Junior could arguably be the fastest in football, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Vinicius played a role in persuading Davies, just as he did with Bellingham. Additionally, the Bayern left-back maintains a close friendship with David Alaba, who made the same move to Real Madrid two summers ago.
