Real Madrid’s Courtois reflects on costly mistake that almost cost them the match against Liverpool
Real Madrid secured a remarkable win over Liverpool on Tuesday night. Despite a shaky start where Thibaut Courtois made an uncharacteristic error, they managed to recover and ultimately win the game convincingly. After just 15 minutes, Liverpool had taken a two-goal lead, and it looked as though Real Madrid would struggle to come back from such a deficit.
Following another mistake by Alisson Becker, Courtois’ earlier error will likely be forgotten in the future. However, the Belgian goalkeeper still addressed his mistake after the game. When Dani Carvajal passed the ball to Courtois, he was caught in two minds when he came up against Mohamed Salah. In his own words, he said that he “controlled it well and at first wanted to pass it, but I saw that Salah was standing still and I said well, I’ll pass it to the right, but it bounces off my knee.”
After Vinicius Junior scored, the Real Madrid team regained their composure and managed to build on their momentum. Courtois acknowledged the team’s strengths, saying that “Alisson does the same, and we are strong on the counter.” This showed that they were able to capitalize on their opportunities and capitalize on their opponent’s mistakes.
Courtois has been in and out of the Real Madrid side this season due to injury issues ahead of the World Cup. It could be suggested that the absence of Courtois’ heroics could be one of the reasons why Barcelona is so far ahead in La Liga. Nevertheless, the Real Madrid team was fortunate that Courtois’ rare mistake did not have a significant impact on their season.
