Real Madrid’s Benzema Closing in on All-Time Record
Real Madrid Claim Victory Against Celta Vigo, Benzema Inches Closer to Record
Real Madrid emerged victorious in their match against Celta Vigo over the weekend, with Marco Asensio and Eder Militao both scoring to secure a 2-0 win. While Karim Benzema did not find the back of the net, the match marked a significant moment for him.
Benzema has been a fixture at Real Madrid since 2009, but his signing was overshadowed that summer by the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka. Over the years, however, the Frenchman has proven himself to be a legend of the club.
According to reports from Mundo Deportivo, the win against Celta Vigo marked Benzema’s 437th victory with Real Madrid, tying him with Sergio Ramos for second place in terms of players with the most wins with the club. The record holder is Iker Casillas, who achieved 463 wins.
Although Benzema still has a considerable way to go before he can break Casillas’ record, many believe that he will achieve the feat. There have been rumors that the Frenchman has agreed to a one-year contract extension with the club, but no official announcement has been made yet.
Benzema needs 27 more wins to surpass Casillas’ record of most wins as a Real Madrid player, a feat that seems highly likely if he remains with the club and avoids major injuries.
Benzema’s contributions to Real Madrid were not always fully recognized, but since Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure in 2018, he has emerged as a leader of the team. He achieved the pinnacle of his individual career by winning the Ballon d’Or for his remarkable 2021/22 campaign. Although this season has not been as successful for him, the Frenchman could still play a crucial role in securing a Champions League and Copa del Rey double.
