Real Madrid sets sights on Gabri Veiga as potential midfield signing amidst competition for Jude Bellingham
Real Madrid’s pursuit of Jude Bellingham has been well-documented, with the English midfielder reportedly topping their list of transfer targets for the summer. However, signing the Borussia Dortmund star will not be an easy feat, given the interest from several other top clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, and PSG. Moreover, there have been rumors that Dortmund would demand a transfer fee close to €150 million to part ways with their prized asset.
While Bellingham would undoubtedly be a perfect addition to Real Madrid’s squad, the club is aware of the challenges involved and must keep their options open. As such, they have reportedly turned their attention to Gabri Veiga, a midfielder already playing in La Liga.
According to Cadena SER, Real Madrid has set their sights on Veiga, who has a release clause of around €40 million. The club may not match the release clause but could negotiate a deal that includes a player. However, Atletico Madrid, their city rivals, are also believed to be interested in the 20-year-old Celta Vigo midfielder.
Veiga has been a breakout star this season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 26 appearances for Celta Vigo across all competitions, as per Transfermarkt. Considering his age and potential, it’s not surprising that some of Spain’s biggest clubs are already linked with him. What makes his performances even more impressive is the fact that Celta Vigo has not had a particularly impressive season.
If Real Madrid manages to sign someone like Veiga, it would be considered a significant coup. However, it’s clear that Bellingham remains their top priority. As the summer transfer window approaches, it remains to be seen if Real Madrid can pull off a deal for their number one target or if they will have to explore other options, including the promising young midfielder from Celta Vigo.
