Real Madrid Hit by Injury Woes as Key Players Face Extended Absences
Real Madrid’s fortunes have taken a grim turn in the opening week of the season, as the team grapples with the loss of two pivotal players to serious injuries.
Last week, Thibaut Courtois left a training session in emotional distress after it was confirmed that he had suffered a tear in his anterior cruciate ligament. Merely two days later, Eder Militao sustained an awkward knee twist during the La Liga opener against Athletic Club at San Mames. Subsequently, it was confirmed that Militao would also be sidelined for a substantial portion of the season. Both players are slated to undergo surgery to facilitate their recoveries.
Thankfully, the situation is more promising for Arda Guler. Carlo Ancelotti addressed Guler’s injury last week, describing it as a minor issue and expressing optimism about a swift return. However, Guler will still undergo surgery for his knee meniscus, a procedure scheduled for today according to Marca.
Initially, Guler attempted to recover from the problem through conservative treatment upon his return from Real Madrid’s preseason tour. Yet, due to insufficient progress, the club has decided that surgical intervention is necessary. Madrid’s leading daily newspaper predicts a recovery period of at least two months for Guler.
This projected timeframe is notably longer than Ancelotti had indicated earlier, which would potentially rule Guler out until at least mid-October. This absence encompasses a stretch of approximately eight La Liga matches, excluding any Champions League group stage fixtures that are yet to be scheduled. Additionally, it includes the anticipated derby clash against Atletico Madrid. While Guler wasn’t a prominent fixture in Ancelotti’s immediate plans prior to his injury, his capabilities hint at the possibility of contributing meaningful minutes upon his return.
