Real Madrid Eye Former La Masia Graduate for Left-Back Reinforcement
Real Madrid’s need for reinforcements became evident during their 3-1 loss to Atletico Madrid, highlighting the challenges facing coach Carlo Ancelotti with a limited squad. One area that requires attention is the left-back position, where Fran Garcia and Ferland Mendy have faced challenges in form and fitness.
In search of a potential solution in the January transfer window, Real Madrid is reportedly keeping an eye on Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, according to The Sun, who is keen on an exit.
Cucurella joined Chelsea in the summer of 2022 from Brighton & Hove Albion. However, he has struggled to establish himself at the club, much like some of their other recent signings. Despite Chelsea’s struggles in the Premier League, where they currently sit in 14th place, the Spanish left-back has yet to make an appearance in the competition this season and appears to be out of favor under Mauricio Pochettino.
A loan move to Real Madrid could be a viable option for Cucurella. He boasts prior experience in Spanish football, having come through Barcelona’s youth ranks and played for clubs such as Eibar and Getafe.
While Cucurella has faced challenges at Chelsea, it’s worth noting that many players have encountered difficulties over the past two seasons at the club. He previously excelled during his time at Brighton & Hove Albion, and a return to Spanish football may provide the opportunity for him to rediscover his best form. Could we soon see the La Masia graduate donning the Royal White jersey of Real Madrid once again?
