Real Madrid Denies Allegations of Financial Irregularities Raised by The Telegraph
Real Madrid has firmly refuted allegations made by The Telegraph, as the English newspaper claimed that the club had undisclosed costs amounting to approximately €120 million. These costs were labeled as “other operational costs” and were purportedly linked to a undisclosed deal, involving the sale of a portion of future sponsorship income in exchange for immediate financial support to cover losses. The deal was said to have commenced in 2017 and renewed in 2020.
The article raised concerns that such actions could potentially violate the Financial Fair Play rules. However, Marca reports that Real Madrid has denied any breach of regulations. While Los Blancos did not directly address The Telegraph’s claims, they allegedly conveyed to Marca that the allegations are unfounded, emphasizing that the costs are not unexplained.
Additionally, Cadena Cope has also denied the presence of any irregularities in Real Madrid’s accounts.
Although offering an explanation of the costs could easily dispel the doubts, the club is not obligated to disclose such details to the press. If requested by the membership, President Florentino Perez may be obliged to provide a more comprehensive breakdown of the costs. However, it’s worth noting that Perez has long enjoyed overwhelming support from the members at the Santiago Bernabeu.
