Real Madrid Acknowledges Desire to Depart the Club in Upcoming Summer Transfer Window”

Andriy Lunin Contemplated Leaving Real Madrid for Regular First-Team Football

Andriy Lunin, who has served as Real Madrid’s backup goalkeeper for the past few seasons, initially behind Thibaut Courtois and currently behind Kepa Arrizabalaga, recently revealed his thoughts about potentially departing the club to secure regular first-team action elsewhere.

In an interview with El Chiringuito, Lunin shared his considerations, saying, “At the end of last season I was thinking about it. It’s normal when you don’t play, but Real Madrid has always been a dream since I was young. You don’t really want to leave, but you always want to play; you train to play, you want to feel the emotions of the games.”

While Lunin acknowledged there were offers from other clubs, he indicated that he had not engaged in serious discussions with them. His contract with Real Madrid is set to expire at the end of the season, and given Kepa’s desire to remain at the club and Courtois’s expected return from injury for the 2024-25 campaign, it would not be surprising if Lunin explores new opportunities next summer to find regular first-team football.
