Marcelo Vieira has officially announced his retirement from professional football. Although he had been without a team recently, the Brazilian legend had not made the final decision until now, as it was a difficult step for him to take.
The emotional announcement came through a heartfelt video posted on his social media accounts. Reflecting on his remarkable career, Marcelo shared touching words about the club that shaped his life:
“At 18, Real Madrid knocked on my door, and I arrived. I can proudly say that I am a true Madridista. Sixteen seasons, 25 titles, 5 Champions Leagues, one of the captains, and countless magical nights at the Bernabéu. Real Madrid is a unique club. Being a Madridista is an indescribable feeling.”
A Legend Forever Linked to Real Madrid
Marcelo’s exemplary behavior both on and off the pitch earned him the love and respect of all Real Madrid fans. The club is his home, and he knows it. As a result, Real Madrid is set to welcome him back in a new role within the organization.
While the exact position remains uncertain, Marcelo could become one of the club’s official ambassadors. There’s even the possibility of him pursuing a coaching role at the club if he chooses to follow that path.

Marcelo joined Real Madrid in 2006 at the age of 18 and played a pivotal role during one of the club’s most successful eras. Over 16 seasons, he made 546 appearances and won an incredible 25 titles, including:

- 4 FIFA Club World Cups
- 3 UEFA Super Cups
- 6 La Liga titles
- 2 Copa del Rey titles
- 5 Spanish Super Cups
Individually, Marcelo was named to the FIFA FIFPRO World 11 six times during his time at Real Madrid.
Achievements Beyond Real Madrid
With Brazil’s national team, Marcelo won the 2013 Confederations Cup, earned a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics, and a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Before returning to Real Madrid, Marcelo also found success with Fluminense, winning the Copa Libertadores and the Recopa Sudamericana.

Marcelo is the third foreign player with the most appearances in Real Madrid’s history.
