Official: Ancelotti Named New Brazil Coach, First Match Date Confirmed

Carlo Ancelotti has been officially appointed as the new head coach of Brazil’s national team. The Italian manager will take over on May 26, right after the end of the season with Real Madrid.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has already signed the contracts, and the official announcement was made today. Ancelotti becomes the first foreign coach in history to manage Brazil’s men’s national team.

First Matches in June
Ancelotti will lead Brazil during the June international break, where the team will play two important World Cup 2026 qualifiers:
- June 6 vs Ecuador
- June 8 vs Paraguay
Agreed Departure from Real Madrid
Ancelotti, 65, will bid farewell to Real Madrid after the final La Liga match against Real Sociedad. Although he still had a year left on his contract, both parties reached a mutual agreement for an early departure. The process was managed by Diego Fernandes, acting on behalf of the CBF.
According to The Athletic, Ancelotti had already reached a deal with Real Madrid regarding his exit. The report confirms previous rumors from April 27, where Ancelotti’s willingness to accept the Brazil job was already known. His contract with Brazil will run until the end of the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

A Legendary Career
Ancelotti is one of the most successful managers in football history. He has won major league titles in every top European league. At Real Madrid, he won two La Liga titles and three Champions League trophies over two spells.
He will replace Dorival Junior, who was sacked in March after 14 months in charge. Ancelotti’s main mission will be to lead Brazil to a sixth World Cup title.
A Disappointing Madrid Season
Real Madrid had a disappointing season:
- Knocked out by Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals
- Lost the Copa del Rey final to Barcelona in extra time
- Currently trail Hansi Flick’s Barcelona by seven points in La Liga, with just three matches remaining
With this move, Brazil is betting on the experience and leadership of one of the greatest coaches in world football.
