Mbappé ‘requests’ a French central defender signing from Florentino.
Real Madrid Eyes Young Talent Leny Yoro for Defensive Reinforcement
Real Madrid is considering strengthening its defense in the upcoming season, with 18-year-old central defender Leny Yoro from Lille on their radar. Kylian Mbappé regards him as the future cornerstone of the French national team.
Yoro’s contract runs until June 30, 2025, making the summer of 2024 an opportune time for the French club to prevent him from leaving as a free agent a year later.
Valued at 18 million euros on Transfermarkt, Lille may seek a higher transfer fee due to Yoro’s significant potential. However, the player’s contractual situation puts the French club in a weaker negotiating position.
Real Madrid doesn’t see this transfer as mandatory and will depend on the departures within the team. With Nacho’s contract expiring, his future remains uncertain. If Nacho departs, Real Madrid could promote a youth player to fill the role of the third or fourth central defender.
An advantage is Yoro’s quick adaptation to the team, given the presence of Tchouaméni, Camavinga, and possibly Mendy, facilitating integration. Additionally, the outcome of Kylian Mbappé’s situation is a factor, as he could potentially become another French addition to the squad.
Currently, the priority is resolving the future of the forward. In less than a month, discussions can begin, and Kylian must make a decision about his future. Real Madrid aims to know his decision in the first half of January.
