Marc-André Ter Stegen and Thibaut Courtois Among Top Contenders for the Yashin Trophy
France Football has unveiled the 10 nominees for the prestigious 2023 Yachine Trophy, set to be presented later this year. These candidates have been recognized as the finest goalkeepers in European football over the past 12 months.
LaLiga boasts two nominees, both of whom have made compelling cases for their inclusion. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen enjoyed a remarkable 2022-23 season with Barcelona, capturing the coveted Zamora Trophy for the first time while also setting a new club record for clean sheets.
Thibaut Courtois, despite suffering an unfortunate ACL injury just before the start of the new season that will sideline him for an extended period, has also earned his nomination. The 31-year-old Belgian put forth another outstanding individual campaign in 2022-23, despite Real Madrid’s challenges.
Yassine Bounou, aged 32, has secured a nomination following a string of impressive performances for both Sevilla and the Moroccan national team over the past year. His standout displays at the 2022 World Cup and his contributions to Sevilla’s seventh Europa League triumph were particularly noteworthy. This summer, Bounou made a move from Los Nervionenses to Al Hilal.
Ter Stegen and Courtois are likely to emerge as frontrunners for the award, setting the stage for a potential triumph for either Barcelona or Real Madrid in this prestigious category.
