Kylian Mbappe’s Contract Saga: PSG’s Standoff with the Star Continues
The ongoing battle between Kylian Mbappe and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) persists as they both strive to shape the footballer’s future.
Mbappe’s training regimen remains separate from the main squad at PSG, even upon their return from a preseason tour in Japan. This tactic is part of PSG’s strategy to nudge him towards a transfer this summer, aiming to secure a transfer fee should he opt against renewing his contract.
In contrast, Mbappe remains resolute in his desire to honor the final year of his contract with PSG. Meanwhile, Real Madrid adopts a patient stance in the background, waiting to see how events unfold.
Cadena SER suggests that part of the reason for this cautious approach lies in Mbappe’s potential jeopardy of loyalty bonuses if he openly declares his desire to leave. Allegedly, such a declaration could incur a cost of €100 million.
PSG has even threatened to sideline Mbappe for the entire season. However, at the very least, they are required to reintegrate him into full training with the main squad after the transfer market concludes. Failure to comply by September 3rd would grant Mbappe the right to take legal action against PSG for unjust treatment.
At that juncture, PSG’s ability to mandate separate training for Mbappe or to direct Luis Enrique not to field him would cease. They would instead depend on the Asturian coach’s choice not to select Mbappe to uphold their threat.
While the notion of Mbappe spending an entire year on the sidelines seems implausible, it’s a scenario that would be unfavorable for all parties involved. Such an outcome would not be in line with the interests of players on the pitch and would also pose financial challenges for PSG, as they would continue paying his wages without on-field contributions. Nevertheless, given the entrenched positions of all parties, no potential outcome can be ruled out.
