Isco Alarcon Impresses as Potential Sergio Canales Replacement at Real Betis
Real Betis finds themselves in the midst of a transition following the departure of Sergio Canales this summer. While supporters are cautious not to get ahead of themselves, the club’s hypothetical replacement for Canales is already making his presence felt. Isco Alarcon has undoubtedly emerged as one of Betis’ standout performers in the early stages of the season.
Despite a challenging start with matches against Villarreal and Atletico Madrid, Los Verdiblancos have managed to secure four points out of a possible six. Isco, who had not seen competitive action since his departure from Sevilla in December, has seamlessly integrated into the team without any evident hurdles.
Reflecting on his progress, Isco stated, “I am feeling good, I am very happy to arrive at a club like Real Betis. The reception from the fans, teammates, and the coach is very positive. I am eager to show my abilities and assist my team. We are just at the beginning, and I hope for a great journey.”
Contrary to expectations, Isco has adapted swiftly. “I’m better than I expected. It’s been a long time without competing, but hey, I’m feeling good. I still think I have more strength to gain, more legs, but the coach is taking care of me. Happy and that’s it, we have to continue and hopefully everyone can enjoy themselves and have a very good year,” he shared in an interview with DAZN, as reported by Marca.
The 30-year-old midfielder endured a challenging period after failing to secure a club during the January transfer window. However, he has now rejuvenated his career. In his standout performance against Atletico Madrid, he was awarded the Man of the Match title and demonstrated an impressive 60 successful passes out of 61 attempted.
Acknowledging his journey, Isco noted, “I have had difficult moments, and I decided to take a pause because I needed it. I required a mental reset. I received support from my family and professionals, as mental well-being is crucial. We need to raise awareness about this. I’m elated to be back, wanting to demonstrate my passion for football and continue enjoying my profession.”
Isco’s choice to return to Real Betis seemed natural to him. “Betis has not surprised me. I observe the players, the ambiance, the enthusiasm among the returning individuals. Joaquín spoke highly, Ceballos praised Betis, and my conversations with Ramon and the manager were all incredibly positive. Now, I’m fortunate to experience it firsthand. I’m grateful for my journey as it led me here. The atmosphere is fantastic, and I’m truly content.”
If Isco maintains this level of performance consistently for Real Betis and their coach Manuel Pellegrini, the club may have found themselves a shining star. Though it has been some years since his prime, fewer obstacles stand in his way now, and he appears highly motivated to maximize his talents.
