Haaland to Real Madrid for €200 Million

Erling Haaland

In recent days, talk has intensified about the possible signing of Erling Haaland by Real Madrid. The Norwegian striker has long been linked with the Spanish giants — not only because he’s one of the best No. 9s in the world, but also because he has admired the club since childhood.

The issue is that Madrid initially chose to prioritize Kylian Mbappé over him, which ultimately pushed Haaland toward Manchester City.

“Haaland has decided that his future lies at Real Madrid and has set two possible timeframes: next year or 2027. He signed with City until 2034, but he included a release clause close to €200 million. (…) His potential move to Real Madrid does not depend on a departure from Vinícius. Both could coexist in the same starting XI,”
reported Tomás González-Martín of El Debate.

At the moment, no major outlet has confirmed this information. Madrid already boast a crowded attack with Vinícius, Mbappé, Rodrygo, Brahim, Mastantuono, Gonzalo, and Endrick. Adding another world-class forward would make little sense competitively.

Currently, Mbappé is being used as a central striker; if Haaland were to arrive, either the Frenchman or Vinícius would have to shift to the right wing.

A Major Investment

While Haaland would undoubtedly boost Real Madrid’s global profile and goalscoring power, the financial impact of such a move would be enormous. The Norwegian earns a massive salary, and both his agent and father typically secure sizeable commissions in transfer negotiations.

As a result, the total cost of signing him could skyrocket for Madrid. Considering the current wage structure — with Mbappé, Vinícius, and Jude Bellingham already earning top-tier salaries — bringing in another superstar contract could destabilize the dressing room.

Not because the club can’t afford it, but because of the potential egos and imbalances that could emerge. For now, the Madrid hierarchy is managing the Mbappé-Bellingham-Vinícius trio well, but Vinícius’s renewal remains unresolved. The Brazilian is reportedly asking for more money than the club is currently willing to offer.
