Former Barcelona Player Open to Future Move to Real Madrid
While it’s a rarity for players to switch allegiance between Barcelona and Real Madrid, one La Masia graduate has not ruled out the possibility of a future move to Santiago Bernabeu. Alejandro Grimaldo, who rose through the youth ranks at Barcelona but never made a senior appearance for the club, is currently enjoying a stellar spell at Bayer Leverkusen, having joined the German club in the summer.
Under the guidance of manager Xabi Alonso, Grimaldo has emerged as one of the most impactful wing-backs in world football. The 28-year-old’s remarkable contributions include eight goals and six assists in 17 appearances for Bayer Leverkusen this season, drawing attention from top clubs.
Despite his Barcelona past, Grimaldo has expressed openness to the idea of joining Real Madrid in the future. In an interview with OK Diario, he acknowledged Real Madrid as one of the best teams globally, stating, “Real Madrid is one of the best teams in the world, if not the best, and it is a team that every player wants to join.” However, he emphasized his current commitment to Bayer Leverkusen, adding, “At the moment, I am at Bayer Leverkusen. I have been here for three months, and everything is going great. We have to keep working, and in the future, we will see what happens.”
While Grimaldo’s future remains uncertain, the prospect of a potential move to Real Madrid could be influenced by Bayer Leverkusen’s manager, Xabi Alonso, who is reportedly on Real Madrid’s radar as a potential successor to Carlo Ancelotti. If Alonso were to become Real Madrid’s manager, it could open doors for Grimaldo to reunite with his former coach, adding an intriguing subplot to potential transfer discussions.
