Confirmed: Manchester United Secures Deal for Former Real Madrid Player
As the summer transfer window neared its conclusion, Manchester United found themselves in urgent need of a left-back following Luke Shaw’s injury setback. Initially eyeing a loan deal for Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella, their pursuit hit a dead end. In response, the club turned to a familiar source, securing the services of former Real Madrid player Sergio Reguilon on a temporary basis.
In a lineage of notable footballers who have donned both Manchester United and Real Madrid jerseys—featuring legends like Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Casemiro, Angel Di Maria, Raphael Varane, Michael Owen, and Ruud van Nistelrooy—Sergio Reguilon now joins this esteemed list.
Though no official announcement has been made yet, comments from Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag have essentially confirmed Reguilon’s arrival. According to Sky Sports, Ten Hag stated, “Reguilon is here, he trained.” When queried about the Spanish left-back’s availability for the upcoming clash against Arsenal, Ten Hag responded affirmatively, saying, “Yes.”
Reguilon’s trajectory since departing Real Madrid in 2020 has seen its share of ups and downs. Despite this, he has found himself at some of the most illustrious clubs in European football. Currently a Tottenham Hotspur player, he spent last season on loan at Atletico Madrid, and now, he is set to don the Manchester United shirt.
The success of his stint at Manchester United remains to be seen. With Shaw sidelined due to injury, Reguilon is expected to receive ample opportunities, especially at the beginning of the season. Making a positive impression during these opportunities could potentially secure him a long-term future at Old Trafford, depending on his ability to impress Ten Hag and contribute effectively to the team.
