Chelsea’s Official Stance on Acheampong Amid Real Madrid Rumors: “Our Intention Is Clear”
With Real Madrid exploring options to reinforce the right-back position, following Dani Carvajal’s absence, one name has emerged from Chelsea’s youth ranks—Josh Acheampong. As rumors continue to swirl around potential replacements, including top target Trent Alexander-Arnold, Acheampong, an 18-year-old Chelsea academy talent, has caught the eye of Madrid’s scouting team, led by Juni Calafat.
The young defender’s impressive development has sparked interest at Real Madrid’s Valdebebas training complex, raising speculation about his potential transfer. However, Chelsea, under the leadership of Todd Boehly, has quickly responded to these rumors. The club has made it clear that they have no intention of selling Acheampong, who is viewed as a future star for the team.
Chelsea’s first-team coach, Enzo Maresca, weighed in on the situation, stating, “I spoke with Josh about three weeks ago in a very positive conversation, but since then, we haven’t had further discussions.” Maresca expressed disappointment that Acheampong has been sidelined from both the first team and the reserve squad while his contract remains unresolved. Acheampong’s current contract runs until the summer of 2026, but uncertainty looms over his future.
A Future in Doubt
Maresca is adamant about the young player’s potential, saying, “It’s a shame because I believe Josh can become a top-level player. He’s only 18 and has a bright future ahead. Our intention is not to lose him.” The Italian coach also shared frustration over the ongoing contract situation, adding, “I don’t know the people handling his case or if they’re helping him, but I really like Josh and want him with us. Unfortunately, it’s not possible right now.”
The internal pressure at Chelsea to renew Acheampong’s contract could be a critical factor in the situation, possibly preventing him from joining the first team. This could open the door for Real Madrid to step in, should the right circumstances arise.
