Casemiro Reveals His Role in Mbappé’s Transfer to Real Madrid

Casemiro recently gave an interview to Diario AS, where he spoke about Kylian Mbappé and his move to Real Madrid.
During his time at Real Madrid, Casemiro had a conversation with club president Florentino Pérez, urging him to sign Mbappé. The Brazilian midfielder faced PSG twice in the Champions League, first in 2018 and then in 2022. After Real Madrid eliminated PSG in 2022, Casemiro spoke to Pérez and insisted that Mbappé needed to be brought to the club.

“Mbappé is an unstoppable player. My first match against him was in the Champions League at the Parc des Princes in Paris. He did everything to us. We lost 1-0 with a goal from him, but it was incredible. He is the kind of player who will go down in football history. You can’t always expect him to be a 9 out of 10, but he never drops below a 7.5 or 8. We have become accustomed to his brilliance,” Casemiro said in the interview.
Casemiro’s Eternal Madridismo
The Brazilian midfielder won everything with Real Madrid, including five Champions League titles, the last of which came in 2022 against Liverpool in Paris. That triumph followed a dramatic knockout run, eliminating PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City, and Casemiro shared his memories of those incredible moments.

“It is difficult to explain what happened on those three nights. This only happens at the Bernabéu, which is magical, and when you wear the Madrid shirt. Against City, we were losing 0-1 in the 88th minute, and they were the better team, missing clear chances. Yet, everyone in the stadium, the players on the pitch, and those of us on the bench kept believing. We all said, ‘Yes, we can.’ Then Rodrygo scored twice, and the stadium went wild. There is no logical explanation. You just have to live it and enjoy it,” Casemiro recalled.
Ballon d’Or Controversy and Vinicius
Casemiro, who knows Vinicius Jr. well, also commented on his compatriot missing out on the Ballon d’Or despite an extraordinary season, where he won both La Liga and the Champions League, playing a crucial role in decisive moments.
“Of course, I was surprised. I’m not saying Rodri didn’t deserve it because that was the decision of those who voted. But there is no doubt about Vinicius’s impact last season, winning every title with Madrid, scoring in finals, especially at Wembley, and being the most decisive player in La Liga. It was a surprise. However, I won’t disrespect Rodri, who is a fantastic player, and the decision was made. But if I had a vote, I would have chosen Vini,” Casemiro said about his fellow Brazilian.
Finally, regarding the upcoming Champions League clash against Manchester City, Casemiro remains optimistic: “It will be difficult, but Real Madrid has everything it takes to win,” he concluded.
