Carlo Ancelotti’s Uncertain Future at Real Madrid: Possibility of Contract Extension Lingers
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti’s future at the club remains uncertain as his contract approaches its expiration next summer. While it appeared likely that Ancelotti would leave the Spanish capital, the Italian tactician has not given up hope of continuing his tenure with the club.
Towards the end of the previous season, there were rumors of Ancelotti potentially joining the Brazilian national team, with CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues initially expressing him as the preferred choice before later confirming his appointment for the upcoming summer. In the interim, Fluminense manager Fernando Diniz has taken charge.
Meanwhile, in Madrid, shortlists have been compiled to identify potential successors for Ancelotti in the upcoming summer. Reports from El Chiringuito suggest that Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso is the leading candidate, followed by Alvaro Arbeloa and Raul Gonzalez.
Despite the speculations and announcements from Rodrigues, Ancelotti has not officially signed any contracts with Brazil or other clubs. If Real Madrid were to offer him an extension, Ancelotti would consider remaining as the manager.
It’s worth noting that there has been no official confirmation regarding Ancelotti’s future from the manager himself, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), or Real Madrid. Ancelotti has chosen to remain tight-lipped on the matter, leaving room for uncertainty.
The uncertainty surrounding Ancelotti’s future is further compounded by the fact that he was previously rumored to be on the verge of being sacked. However, if Ancelotti can guide Real Madrid to a La Liga title this season, it could potentially alter the club’s perspective on his future. The last manager to hold the position for more than three years at Real Madrid was Vicente del Bosque, who served from 1999 to 2003, completing a four-year tenure.
