Carlo Ancelotti has already found Toni Kroos’ replacement at Real Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti may have already found his Toni Kroos replacement at Real Madrid, given Dani Ceballos’ incredible rise to the starting lineup.

Last season, Real Madrid’s well-documented successes were overshadowed by the looming feeling of Toni Kroos retiring. The Germany international hung up his boots while he was still playing at the highest level, so now his absence is felt by Los Blancos.

Without any shadow of a doubt, Toni Kroos is one of the best midfielders of all-time. In fact, the holding midfielder redefined what it meant to anchor the midfield and defence and his fine range of passing will be remembered by Madridistas for the rest of time.

This season, it has been a struggle for Real Madrid to replace Toni Kroos. They tinkered with the possibility of replacing him externally in the summer transfer window but opted not to.

So, now we are in the January transfer window, why haven’t Real Madrid signed a midfielder to replace Toni Kroos? Well, the answer is that they have already found his replacement internally.

Over the last month, Dani Ceballos has achieved a well-deserved promotion to the Real Madrid first-team. As noted by Rodra P of Relevo, the Spanish midfielder has started each of the last four Liga games and each of those games resulted in a Real Madrid win.

Therefore, Dani Ceballos has been hailed as the successor for Toni Kroos’ role. Obviously, those are huge boots to fill but the long-term Real Madrid star has shown the capability to fill them.

Dani Ceballos has been a Real Madrid player since 2017. Despite making over 100 appearances for the white team, there has always been that nagging feeling that he is nothing more than a squad player. Ceballos being sent out on loan to Arsenal only validated this feeling.

However, this is the season which Ceballos has been trusted to fulfil a busier squad role. Not only has he fulfilled the increased role but he has done so while impressing both Ancelotti and the Real Madrid fans.

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room. Ceballos might be seeing Real Madrid through this uncertain period in the midfield but Ancelotti still needs at least one more option in this position long-term.

Therefore, it is no surprise to see that Los Blancos have been linked to a free transfer of Joshua Kimmich. At least until the summer, Ceballos will keep his position in the starting eleven.
