Manager Ancelotti Confirms Kepa’s Absence Against Almeria and Addresses Midfield Depth

Real Madrid’s Manager, Carlo Ancelotti, has provided insights into the club’s latest developments, revealing that newly signed goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga will not be making his debut against Almeria this weekend due to limited integration with the team.

Following the acquisition of Kepa on loan from Chelsea, the decision was made to hold back his introduction to the starting lineup, as he hasn’t had ample time to acclimate to the team dynamics. Thibaut Courtois’s anterior cruciate ligament injury prompted the move. However, on Thursday, reports indicated that Ancelotti would continue to rely on backup goalkeeper Andriy Lunin for the upcoming match against Almeria.

When questioned about Kepa’s potential participation, Ancelotti stated, “He is adapting well, but tomorrow we will continue with Lunin.” The decision seemed resolute.

An intriguing aspect emerged when the possibility of a shared role for Kepa and Lunin across cup competitions and league matches was raised. Ancelotti’s response was revealing: “I don’t know. Kepa already possesses a high level and valuable experience as an international player. On the other hand, Lunin, as we mentioned last week, lacks a bit of experience, which is entirely normal for a young player. We won’t be implementing rotations every three days. Both goalkeepers are highly capable, but one will naturally receive more playing time.” His words firmly positioned Kepa in the forefront.

Additionally, Ancelotti’s squad faces potential injury setbacks. Eder Militao, Thibaut Courtois, Dani Ceballos, Arda Guler, and Dani Ceballos are all dealing with injuries, and Eduardo Camavinga’s availability for Saturday’s match remains uncertain. Ancelotti remarked, “He has sustained a minor strain. While he is in the squad, the decision about his participation will be made tomorrow.”

One area in which Real Madrid possesses significant depth is midfield. Ancelotti acknowledged the range of options available, with Fede Valverde, Jude Bellingham, and Aurelien Tchouameni having started the previous match. However, he also emphasized the presence of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, both eager to contribute and enrich the team’s midfield rotations.
