Mourinho Greenlights Sales to Fund Cucurella Deal

Mourinho no cuenta con Fran García ni Raúl Asencio

Real Madrid boss ready to part ways with Fran García and Asencio after €50M signing

José Mourinho has already begun shaping his new Real Madrid project—and he’s made it clear that sacrifices will be needed to balance the books after the arrival of Marc Cucurella.

The Spanish international is set to join Madrid in a deal worth around €50 million, following the well-known “here we go” confirmation from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Despite interest from both FC Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, Cucurella is heading to the Spanish capital—much to the delight of many Madrid fans.

Two Departures to Balance the Deal

With new arrivals come inevitable departures. Mourinho has reportedly informed the club’s hierarchy that two players are no longer part of his plans: Fran García and Raúl Asencio.

The idea is clear—generate around €50 million through their sales to offset Cucurella’s transfer fee. Internally, Madrid believe they could receive approximately €30 million for Asencio and €20 million for Fran García.

Both players, products of the club’s academy, would be open to leaving if it guarantees them more playing time elsewhere. Now, it remains to be seen whether any clubs will meet those valuations.

Exit Strategy Gains Momentum

After an active start to the transfer window, the focus at Valdebebas is shifting toward outgoings. Squad space must be freed up, and Mourinho is said to be targeting as many as seven departures this summer as he reshapes the team to fit his vision.

Madrid Leading the Market

Even with plenty of the window still to go, Real Madrid are already among the busiest clubs in Europe. Club president Florentino Pérez is determined to respond to recent disappointments with a major rebuild.

For a combined fee of around €70 million—reportedly similar to what Barcelona spent on Gordon—the club has secured several high-profile signings, including Denzel Dumfries, Ibrahima Konaté, Bernardo Silva, and now Cucurella.

More Transfers on the Horizon

Madrid’s business is far from over. The club is still actively looking to sign a new midfielder, and there could yet be surprise additions before the window closes.

With a long summer ahead, one thing is clear: Real Madrid are determined to remain at the center of the transfer market—and Mourinho is pulling the strings behind a major overhaul.
