Fabrizio Romano plays down Casemiro return to Real Madrid

“No contacts” despite speculation about a ‘last dance’

The idea of a fairytale return for Casemiro to Real Madrid has been firmly cooled by Fabrizio Romano. While the Brazilian remains one of the most iconic midfielders in the club’s recent history, a comeback to the Santiago Bernabéu appears unlikely — at least for now.

Romano addressed the rumors directly, making it clear that there are currently no negotiations or contacts between the player and the club.

“Madrid need a midfielder… why not Casemiro for one last dance? But I’m not aware of any contact.”

Interest from MLS, Saudi Arabia and Europe

Casemiro is expected to leave Manchester United in the summer, and he’s not short of options.

According to Romano:

  • MLS clubs have shown recent and growing interest
  • Teams from Saudi Arabia have been tracking him for years
  • Several European clubs have made inquiries, but his salary is a major obstacle

This financial factor makes a return to elite European clubs — including Real Madrid — more complicated.

A legendary chapter already closed

Casemiro’s legacy at Real Madrid is unquestionable. Alongside names like Luka Modrić, Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Sergio Ramos, he was a cornerstone of one of the most successful eras in the club’s history.

However, the Brazilian himself already hinted when leaving Madrid that his cycle at the club had come to an end:

He needed a change — not money — but a new challenge.

Madrid still looking for a midfielder

Even though Casemiro doesn’t seem to be part of the plan, Real Madrid are actively searching for midfield reinforcements. The club is focused on younger, long-term profiles, rather than bringing back veterans for a short stint.

What’s next for Casemiro?

All signs point toward a move outside Europe’s top elite level — with MLS currently leading the race, although Saudi Arabia remains a strong contender.

A romantic “last dance” at the Bernabéu may sound appealing, but as things stand, it’s more fan dream than concrete reality.
