Xabi Alonso Wants Nico Paz Back at Real Madrid in January
The coach hopes to bring the Argentine talent in early, but a moral agreement with Como prevents his return before 2026.
Real Madrid remains focused on the present — especially after recent setbacks at Anfield and Vallecas — but the club continues to plan for the future. Although no new signings are expected in the upcoming January transfer window, work behind the scenes is already underway for the 2026–2027 season.
Among the names on that long-term list is Nico Paz, the talented Argentine midfielder currently on loan at Como. Club president Florentino Pérez and general director José Ángel Sánchez are already mapping out his eventual return to the Santiago Bernabéu.
Xabi Alonso’s “Impossible” Request
Head coach Xabi Alonso, however, would love to bring Nico Paz back sooner — ideally as early as January. The young playmaker, born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is seen by Alonso as a valuable addition who could offer creativity and versatility in midfield.
Despite having the contractual right to recall him through a buy-back clause, Real Madrid has made a moral commitment to Como not to interrupt his development or cut short his stay before the summer of 2026.
As a result, Alonso’s request — while understandable — won’t be granted. Nico Paz will continue his growth in Italy for now, with Madrid confident that when he does return, he’ll be fully ready to take on a role in the first team.
