Rüdiger Agrees Exit Plan with Real Madrid

Antonio Rüdiger

The German defender could leave the Bernabéu in 2026, with Saudi Arabia offering an attractive alternative.

Antonio Rüdiger’s future at Real Madrid looks increasingly uncertain. While many expected the German center-back to extend his contract beyond June 30, 2026, his physical issues and latest injury have cast doubt on any renewal. By March he will turn 33, and with a chronic knee problem plus lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia on the table, the chances of him leaving are growing.

A Gentleman’s Agreement

Rüdiger and Real Madrid have reached a mutual understanding: around March, both sides will discuss whether they want to continue together. The decision will take into account his performances, injury record, and input from manager Xabi Alonso. At present, the balance seems to tilt more toward a departure than a renewal.

Inside the club, however, there is no lack of appreciation for the sacrifices Rüdiger has made. Last season, he played through significant knee pain, refusing surgery in order to cover for the absences of Éder Militão and an out-of-form David Alaba. His commitment has not gone unnoticed, and Madrid intend to respect his wishes when the time comes.

Giving Everything Until the End

For now, Rüdiger is determined to give his all once again. He is expected to be available by mid-December, and although he has lost his role as a guaranteed starter, the reduced workload could actually help him deliver stronger performances when called upon.

With Militão still regaining rhythm after a long injury layoff, Alonso will welcome having Rüdiger’s experience and physicality to rotate the defense. While Raúl Asencio shows promise, the German remains the more reliable and battle-tested option.

Looking Ahead

Rüdiger’s exit is not yet confirmed, but the path is becoming clearer: finish the season with full commitment, assess his condition in March, and then decide whether to continue in Madrid or seek a new chapter—most likely in Saudi Arabia.
