Goodbye to Real Madrid: he’s about to sign for Arsenal—’The Athletic’ confirms only the signature is missing.
With the transfer window still open, clubs are making last-minute moves to strengthen their squads. While Real Madrid has no plans to sign new players, one target, Martín Zubimendi, appears to be heading to the Premier League.
Arsenal Close to Signing Zubimendi
According to journalist Mario Cortegana of The Athletic, the Real Sociedad midfielder is very close to joining Arsenal. Despite being admired at Valdebebas, Madrid never prioritized his signing, and the deal with the English club is now only missing the final signature.
Zubimendi had previously been linked with a move to Liverpool, but that transfer fell through. Now, Arsenal looks set to secure his services.
Madrid’s Focus Remains Elsewhere
While Madrid’s management appreciates Zubimendi’s talent, reinforcing the midfield was never a priority. The club is more focused on strengthening the defense, which has been Ancelotti’s main concern. Additionally, Dani Ceballos’ recent performances have reassured the club about their midfield options.
Kroos’ Departure and Future Plans
Toni Kroos’ exit left a gap in Madrid’s midfield, but the club chose to rely on its current squad rather than sign a replacement. The belief is that young players will continue to develop and fill the role over time.
Joshua Kimmich an Unlikely Option
Reports from Germany have linked Joshua Kimmich with Real Madrid, as his Bayern Munich contract expires soon. However, at nearly 30 years old, he does not fit the club’s long-term transfer strategy. As a result, his chances of wearing the Madrid jersey are slim.
