Bojan Krkic: A Reminder That Success in Football Comes in Many Forms
Former Barcelona striker, Bojan Krkic, holds a distinct perspective on success in football, contending that players like Lionel Messi should not be viewed as typical examples for young athletes due to their extraordinary circumstances.
“Neither Messi nor Cristiano nor Rafa Nadal are ordinary cases; they cannot be examples for young people,” Krkic asserted. “They are extraordinary. Success is not like that for them because it always happens. Success can be applied to many scenarios.”
In Krkic’s view, success should not be solely defined by winning prestigious awards like the Ballon d’Or. Instead, he believes that young players should look to those who have faced adversity and persevered to achieve their dreams as inspirational models.
“For me, Sergio Canales is a successful athlete because he has overcome adversity, having suffered three knee injuries, and still earned a place on the National Team. Joselu, at the age of 33, has made it to Real Madrid. These are the kinds of situations that define success,” the former striker emphasized.
Currently serving as Barcelona’s talent scout and football coordinator for loanees, Krkic’s viewpoint underscores the importance of recognizing various pathways to success in football, beyond the glamorous accolades, and celebrating the resilience and determination of those who surmount challenges to fulfill their ambitions.
