Real Madrid’s Luka Modric Pays Tribute to Sergio Busquets as Barcelona Midfielder Prepares to Leave the Club
Barcelona’s End of an Era: Sergio Busquets to Depart Club, Luka Modric Pays Tribute
Sergio Busquets, the last remaining player from the Pep Guardiola era at Barcelona, is set to leave the club at the end of the season. Real Madrid superstar Luka Modric paid tribute to his long-time rival on the pitch, hailing him as one of the best midfielders he has ever played against.
Despite being widely recognized as one of the best midfielders of his generation, Busquets often goes unnoticed due to his unflashy playing style. Similarly, Modric was not considered one of the best players of his generation until recent years, despite having won numerous honours with Real Madrid, including the Ballon d’Or.
On Twitter, Modric expressed his high regard for Busquets: “One of the best midfielders I’ve ever played against. It has been a pleasure.”
Busquets has made an impressive 719 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 18 goals and providing 45 assists. While he has done an incredible job for the Catalan giants, his departure comes at a time when the club is entering a new era, and Busquets himself is set to turn 35 years old this summer.
As for Modric, the 37-year-old remains an important part of Real Madrid’s team, but it is inevitable that he will be replaced in the starting XI sooner or later. The club is rumored to be pursuing Jude Bellingham as his potential successor.
